Questions about getting a tattoo at home..?

My boyfriend refuses to listen to me and allows his ';best'; friend- who is also unfortunately our room mate for another two weeks, boyfriend feels sorry for him- to give him tattoos only after just getting a tattoo machine two months ago... my boyfriend is his guinea pig but he doesn't realize that.

The guy is a great artist on paper but sucks with a tattoo machine please help me understand if these practices are safe so I can stop worrying and fighting with him about this...

My boyfriend is always completely drunk and continues to drink while getting a tattoo. Doesn't this affect his blood? And how can I convince him that the artist shouldn't be drunk as well?

The guy has no shading needles but instead goes really fast over the part he wants to shade with a regular needle, he says it works better and he doesn't need those needles. True, harmful?

The guy constantly, constantly wipes the tattoo with alcohol. Constantly dipping in cotton balls then scrubbing what he just tattooed. Sometimes he even scrubs alcohol on the part the tattoo will be then starts to tattoo because he says it holds the ink better.

Is there a proper way to mix ink?

As soon as your done with the ink you used, shouldn't it be thrown away? Or can it be saved for another day of tattooing on the same person?

Can a person reuse there same needle? The guy insists he reuses his needles on himself because it's just him and nobody can give him anything. True?

Thank you for all your help. My boyfriend has four tattoos, all done by this guy within a month. He's making stupid decisions, and won't listen to me about it. So let me know if these things are safe and what's wrong with them.Questions about getting a tattoo at home..?
What he's doing is indeed illegal, and as the homeowner, you can be fined for allowing him to tattoo out of your house without proper licensing and an inspection of the premises from the county health department. Unless you want a fine, and a criminal record, kick his butt out and leave the creep you're with. Sorry to be so negative, but he's putting your safety in jeopardy.Questions about getting a tattoo at home..?
if your boyfriend gets tattooed by this guy hes an idiot.

not only will he regret the completely crappy tattoo he'll have for the rest of his life, but he might get a disease.

under no circumstance should you reuse a needle.

and alcohol thins the blood, so its probably not a good idea to drink while getting tattooed.
Maybe you should really question if you want to stay with this guy. If he's making these decisions and not listening to your input, then he's probably not going to change. You can't make stupid people smart and you shouldn't be putting yourself at risk or in an unheathy situation because of him.
girl u need to take a stand!
You're totally in the right here.

He should not be tattooing from an unregistered premesis anyway, so he's breaking the law to start with.

Drinking before or during a tattoo thins the blood, meaning he will bleed more and it will make his tattoo take longer to heal. If the guy is drunk while tattooing well, no one can do their job as well when they're drunk, let alone a tattooist who is marking you for life. If he's drunk he won't be able to tell as well how deep he is tattooing your boyfriend, which means he could well be ******* up his skin by scarring it, making it harder to cover up in the future.

He can't shade with a liner. You need rounds and mags to shade properly. Shading with a liner will just look realllly patchy and crap. It doesn't work better, it doesn't work at all. He's just too cheap and arrogant to get the right stuff.

He shoud be using vaseline to clean off the excess ink and hold the ink while tattooing, nothing else.

He should be using pre-mixed ink from a sterile environment, specially being a dodgy scratcher. You should throw the ink cap away once it's been used, with all ink in it. Never put it back in the bottle or use it again. Same person or not. Same with all needles, as well as being horrible unsterile it can get damaged if it's stored out of the blister pack. It is SO SO easy so damage the tip of a fine tattoo needle, and once it has a tiny kink in the end it can rip your skin up pretty bad and it hurts alot more. Plus if it's being left around, all sorts of things can be getting onto the needle in the meantime, as he won't have an autoclave to sterilise the needle again or the tubes (which he should be doing after every use). Nothing else will sterilise this equipent to the standard it should be except an autoclave, and these cost thousands of pounds. this guy won't even throw a needle away!

Seriously, your boyfriend needs to snap out of it. My younger brother got a tattoo from a guy in his kitchen, and I went insane. I have lots of tattoos, all done in studios by top artists and I feel strongly about this. I was working in a tattoo studio at the time, and it just felt like a smack in the face for me. WHEN your boyfriend realises he has crap on his and wants to get cover ups, they will never look anywhere near as good as they could have. He will seriously have to compromise on what he has and spend more money on getting it fixed. That's all hoping this is the worst of his problems i.e. he hasn't contracted anything off this guy such as HIV or Hep B.

Good luck convincing him and to tell his ';friend'; (used in the broadest sense) that he's not going to be his pin cushion any more. If he's so confident in his ';skills';, practice on himself! I did!
Wow.

1) Alcohol thins blood. Although this isn't a serious concern, it's likely your boyfriend may be more prone to bleeding when he's drinking and getting tattoos.

The most serious concern here is sterility! Tattoo parlors have autoclaves which are able to heat up metal utensils and remove bacteria from them. Without the use of an autoclave, you cannot ensure sterile utensils.

Rubbing alcohol will not give you the same sterility as an autoclave.

You never reuse ink either. It's about maintaining sterility! Once you repeatedly move the needle from the person to the ink you're contaminating the ink.

You should never reuse needles. When this guy uses the needle on himself, then he leaves tissue behind on the needle, this residual tissue breeds bacteria, then he reinjects himself with that bacteria. Sure, he won't get aids from himself, but he might get a bacterial infection that could be fatal.

Improperly sterilized needles can leave you open to a list of complications:

hepatitis (c%26amp;b)

bacterial infections

tetanus

HepB can be passed through sexual contact! So you can get a ';present'; from his immature actions!!

Seriously, I think you need to give your boyfriend the ultimatum. He's endangering both of you through his dumb moves. Sure, he's probably thinking this is fun, but if he gets a disease from improper sterile technique, then it's not fun. Bacterial infections can be fatal and have a tendency to move through the body quickly.

Cut this guy loose for a while until he comes to. I'm glad you have the sense to see that there's something wrong here.

If you'd really like advice, go to your doctor. Ask him for information about tattoos gone wrong. If your boyfriend won't listen to you, go drag his *** to the tattoo parlor and have one of the artists teach him a thing or too. Your boyfriend's buddy is completely disgracing that tattoo industry.
those are all dangerous practices, alcohol thins the blood as does aspirin and could cause excessive bleeding. reusing ink and needles, even on the same person, can lead to infection, needles are sterilized for a reason and the ink is placed in an open container, who knows what can fall in there. Even if the ink container is covered during storage, the needles could transfer contaminants from the skin to the ink and there is a moist medium for bacteria to grow and cause infection. Pouring the ink back into the bottle is cross contamination. Rubbing the freshly tattooed area causes irritation and could cause small tears in the skin while alcohol dries the skin. Would you go to a dentist that was drinking while cleaning your teeth? I wouldn't get a tattoo from someone who is drinking either. There is a proper way to mix inks for certain effects. As for using an outlining needle to shade, it causes unnecessary work and damage to the skin and makes it harder to get the proper color/shading needed. Your boyfriend is foolish for getting work done by a novice and someday he will wake up and realize his foolishness, hopefully before it is too late.
